Dictation is a new feature within the AI-powered TherapyFuel suite that allows enrolled clinicians to speak their notes directly into TherapyNotes. Built on HIPAA-compliant clinical language models, Dictation provides exceptional accuracy and fluency; making documentation faster, easier, and more natural across all note types.
See TherapyFuel Overview for details on how to get started.
Voice Dictation in Notes
- Select an existing note or create your desired note from the patients' Documents tab, Scheduling page, or from your To-Do List. To learn more about creating notes, read Create a Note.
- Select the Dictation icon inside of the text editor and start speaking.
- Once you are done, select the Dictation icon once again to stop dictating your note.
Dictation Alternatives
If you’re not enrolled in TherapyFuel, you can still use voice dictation with your device’s built-in or third-party tools. While these alternatives don’t offer the same compliance, accuracy and seamless integration as TherapyFuel Dictation, they can still help reduce typing and speed up documentation.
Below are the steps to enable dictation functionality on your device.
Mac:
- Click the Apple menu icon.
- Select System Preferences from the Apple menu.
- Click the Dictation & Speech icon.
- For Dictation select the On radio button.
Windows:
- Click the Start menu icon.
- Scroll down the list of applications and select Windows Ease of Access.

iPad / iPhone:

- Tap the microphone icon on the keyboard.
- Tap Enable Dictation.
Other voice dictation software can be used with TherapyNotes, such as Dragon Naturally Speaking, and may include many features not available with your computer's built-in dictation application.
