Provider agents are active users authorized to send non-controlled prescriptions to the pharmacy on a provider's behalf. Provider agents can write, queue, and send prescriptions using functionality similar to that of a Prescriber, though with some limitations due to permissions.
Setting Up a Provider Agent
Prescribers can set up a Provider Agent from the patient’s chart by completing the following:
- Click Patients > Patient Name > eRx tab.
- Select the Menu icon (☰).
- Select Utilities > Select Manage Provider Agent Assignments.
- Click Authorize next to the appropriate Prescription Support staff member(s).
- Select the confirmation checkbox.
- Click the Approve Changes button to finalize the assignment.
Once approved, the selected staff member will be able to enter and send non-controlled prescriptions on the Prescriber’s behalf.
Entering Medications as a Provider Agent
Provider Agents may enter non-controlled substance medications from the patient’s eRx tab:
- Navigate to the patient’s eRx tab.
- In the Prescription Management section, select Send, Signature to Follow.
This allows the prescription to be sent to the pharmacy while awaiting the Prescriber’s signature.
Prescriber Signature Requirements
When a Provider Agent sends a prescription using Send, Signature to Follow, the Prescriber must complete the signature within 24 hours.
When the prescriber navigates to the patient’s eRx tab, they’ll see a red alert stating:
You have X prescriptions awaiting your signature that have not been signed within 24 hours of the time they were sent. Please address this immediately.
Prescribers can sign pending prescriptions by completing the following steps:
Scroll to the Prescription Management section.
Identify prescriptions awaiting signature (marked with a clock icon).
Select the prescription(s).
Click the Send button to send the prescription and append your signature.
