TherapyNotes provides settings to help your practice manage treatment plans based on your clinical and administrative needs. Depending on your practice’s preferences, you can require a treatment plan before completing a progress note or allow clinicians to proceed without one.
Requirements for Psychotherapy Treatment Plans
Administrators can configure whether a treatment plan is required or optional before creating a psychotherapy progress note. Although we strongly encourage treatment plans, your practice may wish to allow progress notes to be written without one. If a treatment plan is required, you can also set a maximum number of days it is applicable before a new plan should be completed.
Configuring Treatment Plan Requirements
- Go to Settings > Note Settings.
- Under Treatment Plan Settings, you can select Requirements for Psychotherapy Treatment Plan Setting that work best for your practice.
- Choose one of the following:
- Required (recommended): A treatment plan must be on file to create a progress note. You can also set a maximum number of days it is applicable before a new plan should be completed.
- Optional: A treatment plan is not required to create a progress note.
- Once you’ve made your selection, click Save Settings.
Director Signature for Treatment Plans
TherapyNotes supports workflows that require a Clinical Director’s signature on psychotherapy and psychiatry treatment plans. When this feature is enabled, a user with the Clinical Administrator role can be designated as the Clinical Director for your practice.
Once a treatment plan is signed by a clinician and, if needed, approved by a supervisor, a task is automatically added to the Clinical Director’s To-Do list for final review and approval.
Enabling the Clinical Director Signature for Treatment Plans
To require a Clinical Director’s signature on psychotherapy and psychiatry treatment plans:
- Navigate to Settings > Note Settings.
- Under Director Signature for Treatment Plans, check the box labeled “Director signature is required on treatment plans.”
- Click Save Settings to apply the change.
Once enabled, a Practice Administrator must assign a Clinical Director. This individual must have the Clinical Administrator role.
Director Signature Workflow
Once the setting is enabled and a Clinical Director is assigned, the workflow proceeds as follows:
- The clinician signs the treatment plan.
- If required, a supervisor approves the plan.
- A task is added to the Clinical Director’s To-Do List for final review.
- The Clinical Director can:
Approve the treatment plan, finalizing it.
Return it to the clinician for revisions.
Once approved by the Clinical Director, the treatment plan is marked complete.
