Using ICD-10 Codes within TherapyNotes
ICD-10 codes must be entered for all appointments with a date of service. ICD-10 is the 10th revision of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD), produced by the World Health Organization (WHO). TherapyNotes simplifies this process with its built-in ICD-10 search, allowing you to quickly find and select the correct diagnosis and automatically fill in the ICD-10 code.
Searching for an ICD-10 Code within TherapyNotes
You can search for an ICD-10 code in treatment plans, progress notes, psychological evaluations, and consultation notes. Simply create the type of note that fits your needs.
Under the Diagnosis section, enter a search term in the diagnosis code field, and a list of matching results will appear. For example, searching for “Insomnia” will display all relevant codes in the dropdown menu.
Note: When a behavioral health clinician searches for an ICD-10 code, TherapyNotes prioritize codes starting with “F” and then “Z” to make finding the most relevant codes easier.
Custom Codes
The Custom Codes tab allows users to add and manage custom diagnosis codes and descriptions for their practice. The list is displayed in two columns: Code and Description. Users can easily add or remove custom codes and save changes by clicking the Save Settings button. Any new diagnosis codes will appear at the top of the list for easy access.
- Navigate to the Settings: Diagnosis Codes page by clicking User Icon > Settings > Notes and Coding > Diagnosis Codes.
- To add a custom code, enter the code in the “Dx Code” field and a description in the “Description” field.
- Once both fields contain a value, click “Add Custom Codes.”
- Selecting “Add Custom Codes” will add the new code to the list of previously defined codes that are shown below the entry fields.
Custom codes that are added/deleted are not saved unless you click "Save Settings."
Removing Non-Billable Codes
You can remove an ICD-10 code from the list of non-billable codes by selecting the “x” button to the right of the code in the list.
The non-billable code changes are not saved unless you click "Save Settings.”
